'Thinking of you' song

Cool things happening!

I'm getting ready for some major changes in my live & one of them is actually having my own album done.
Over the years I worked on various album projects, but I have to say I feel very happy to just write my own stuff now!

I want to share a song with you that will be one of the more slower songs on the album (80 bpm IS slow! ;-))

The funny thing is that we lost parts of the recorded tracks, so now the song is in a somewhat rather unfinished staduim. But I still like the way it sounds.

The lyrics are simple phrases to one of the things on my mind during the writing of the song.
There's a song by Nick Lowe with the tittle 'All men are liars'. I think thats spot on, because we tend to deny our own instincts as men and prefere safety rather than adventure.
Not stating that any kind of relationship doens't work, it just feels to me that a lot of people are chasing some kind of rigid lifestyle lived by the masses and advocated by the government instead of discovering their own self, the core of who there are & chasing their OWN dreams!

There's a quote I got from Jon Krakauer's great book 'Into The Wild'; 'The core of mans' spirit comes from new experiences.' and another quote from the same book;
'I'm going to paraphrase Thoreau here... rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness... give me truth.'

When I was writing this song, I could not really put my finger on what exactly I felt, but now I know that I was feeling some aching to a life I no longer live.
So I can't fool myself to say that I sometimes reflect on the time that has been between me and someone close to my heart...

So that's it in a nutshell, the lyrics tell everything:

When I woke up this morning
my mind was with you
Oh when I woke up this morning
I was thinking of you
So why can’t I be with you?

Tell me baby
I’m wondering where you are
Com’on tell me baby
are you thinking of me

When I woke up this morning
you were the first thing on my mind
When I woke up this morning
I couldn’t help myself
why can’t I go without you?

When I woke up this morning
my mind was with you
When I woke up this morning
I was thinking of you
So why am I so untrue?

Let me share the mp3 of this song so you can take a listen:

Recording time in Paris!

These last weeks have been really crazy!
To give you on update on what I'm currently up to;
I'm giving guitar workshops in Belguim during summertime and planning to do guitar-instructional touring with guitarplayers from the U.K. & France during the month of october.

Apart from the guitar instruction, I'm really heavy into songwriting and recording-mode these days. My first full-lenght album w'ont be ready untill winter 2009, taking my time to really let the songs I'm writing sink in and deserve their spot on the album.

'Spirits in Revolution' seems to be becoming an album that expresses what I'm feeling right now. To be honest, I love every moment I'm working on this cd.

This project feels very special to me (duh, it's my debut-album!).

Last night I made a list of all songs that probably will make the album;

-Still Running
-Mr. Blue Sax
-Snowflakes
-Monster
-Images
-thinking of you

From now on I will post updates about the songwriting and recording process here.

As each song on the album takes time to sink in, it starts to develop itself into a story of it's own.
Take 'thinking of you', the last song on my 'must have on the album'-list; this song really wrote itself when I had to record it last week in Paris.

Funny thing, when I planned the recordings, I had another song on my mind, but I changed my mind last minute and wrote another song the day before the recordings (yes, must love that last-minute pressure).

I will share a preview of this song with you (please subscribe for the free monthly newsletter to receive this) shortly.
But before that I'll let you enjoy some pictures of the time I had in Paris recording this song.
